What connects us …

brooke and darcy meet

I don’t know how I ended up as a grand aunt (!!) but I am – six times and counting ….

How to feel old in one simple sentence!  Someone pass me a knee rug will you?  Kill me now!

(Big sigh)

Anyway …. (she says picking herself up off the floor) (gingerly) …

Anyway ….

One of my cherubs has spent two years of her young life in Alabama.  The family’s just returned to Australia and this is a photo of (hand over my mouth mumbling) my grand niece Brooke meeting my son Darcy for the first time.

I love the gentleness in this image.

Nobody’s pushing, it’s just a little moment in time. Here I am. Here we are. Together. Somehow connected.

Well somehow over the last 10 months, through this blog and over on the facebook page, I’m finding myself connected to a lot of new people – all over the world.

We’ve never met, but there’s a gentleness. We’re crossing paths at a moment in time. Here I am. Here we are. Together. If we met in person, I think I could like you.

One of those new friends is Francesca at Postcard Pictures and Fran has nominated Destination Here&Now for its first award … The Addictive Blog Award. I’m so touched, can’t tell you Fran. Thankyou.

My job now is to pass it on, to 10 blogs that I turn to regularly. Blogs I hope you’ll enjoy and bloggers I’d like to say thank you to, for inspiring and entertaining and challenging me….so here we go.

Addictive Blog Award logo

Rohan Anderson at Whole Larder Love. for being brave and inspiring us to lead a more thoughtful existence.
Maryam Montague at My Marrakesh, because that’s where it all began for me. Maryam is in Kabul at the moment and she still manages to find beauty in the world.
Harriet Goodall at Random Weaving for inspiration.
Eden Riley at Edenland, because this is a girl who stands on the precipice of life at times and I love her strength and the way she roars.
Heather Robinson at Lost in Arles  because I think she looks at her part of the world a bit like I look at mine.
Satu Vanska-Westgarth at Destination Unknown because I think we could be friends and our worlds could not be more different!
Danielle Krysa at The Jealous Curator, again for inspiration and because I never know what to expect.
Mrs Woog at WoogsWorld because she cracks me up. About nothing and everything. Language warning 🙂
I’m debating whether to include Garance Dore because I used to love her site when it was just her telling stories, but since her site redesign, I feel she’s got a bit lost in it. No I have to include her. Her photography is beautiful.
And 10…ahh too many … I’m going to go with Millie Brown at Travel Notecards because I want to take photos like her.

Hope you enjoy them!

I’m off to have a nana nap. Pass my rug will you luv 😉

I love that we are somehow connected and yes I know I would like you if we met in real life!! Francesca nominated us as well so I’m working on this next. I’m also a great Aunt twice over and my brother is a grandpa which we love to remind him constantly. I’ve already connected with some of these bloggers through you and now off to visit the rest and say hi.

Hey Lisa. I saw that on Fran’s blog so thought I’d spread the love. A great aunt? I put it down to being a mistake 10 years later than Mum and Dad thought they were well finished, and some of my siblings and siblings-in-law being child brides – joking family! Hope you like the other blogs. I get that they may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and as with all bloggers, some posts are gold and some don’t grab me… but yes, these are the ones I continue to revisit for one reason or another. Hope the countdown is going well. Shouldn’t it be undici.

The picture is wonderful Marg. And I couldn’t agree more about the connection despite the geographic differences. Lovely for you to shout out to your faves. And this is what it’s all about.

Thanks Shalagh. I think that one of the things I enjoy too is that it’s via the written word and often via photos. Like writing letters. Old school but modern medium. It gives you a different sense of a person and sometimes that’s easier than going through the nervousness of meeting someone in person. Hope you like some of the other blogs. Marg. x
